Absolutely. Every kitchen island is handmade to order, so we can create exactly the size and configuration you need. Whether you have a narrow galley kitchen, a large open-plan space, or an awkward corner to fill, we can build an island to fit perfectly. We can also match the height to your existing counters, accommodate specific appliances, or create an overhang for bar stool seating. Simply provide your measurements and requirements when requesting a quote.
We offer extensive storage customisation. You can add drawers (1 to 4) for utensils and linens, cupboards with panel or tongue and groove doors for larger items, open shelving for cookbooks and display items, or a combination of all three. Many customers choose drawers on one side for everyday access and cupboards on the other for bulk storage. We can also add wine racks, towel rails, or hooks. The storage configuration can be different on each side to suit how you'll use the island.
Standard kitchen counter height (around 90cm) works well if you'll primarily use the island for food preparation and need it to match your existing counters. Breakfast bar height (around 110cm) is ideal if you want to add bar stool seating and create a casual dining or socialising area. Many customers choose a split-level design with standard height on the working side and raised breakfast bar height on the seating side. We can create any height configuration to suit your lifestyle and kitchen design.
Redwood worktops offer excellent value and natural warmth with honey tones that suit traditional farmhouse kitchens. Oak provides premium durability with distinctive grain patterns and superior resistance to the knocks and spills of busy kitchen use. Oak is harder than redwood, making it more resistant to dents from dropped items or knife marks. Both materials can be finished in clear varnish to show the natural wood, or painted in your choice of colour. The price difference is approximately £85-200 depending on island size.
Kitchen islands are designed to be substantial, freestanding pieces that sit firmly on the floor, providing a stable work surface. They don't come with wheels as standard. However, if you need mobility for cleaning or flexibility in your kitchen layout, we can potentially add heavy-duty locking castors to your specification, though this may affect stability during food preparation tasks. Most customers prefer the permanent, solid feel of a fixed island. The free fully assembled delivery includes positioning the island exactly where you want it in your kitchen.
