Yes, absolutely. We can build benches to exactly fit under your table, ensuring they tuck away neatly when not in use. Simply provide us with the internal measurements between your table legs (both width and height clearance), and we'll create benches that slide in and out smoothly. We can also match the finish to your existing table if you provide details, or create a complementary look with a different wood tone or painted colour. Many customers add benches to tables they already own to increase seating capacity.
The standard bench height is 45cm, which works perfectly with standard dining tables at 75cm height. This provides comfortable seating with appropriate leg room and table clearance. However, if you're using benches with a kitchen island, breakfast bar or counter-height table, we can make them taller to suit. Simply tell us your table height when requesting a quote, and we'll calculate the perfect bench height to ensure comfortable seating. As everything is made to order, we can accommodate any height requirement.
Square legs provide a clean, contemporary look with straight lines that suit modern farmhouse or minimalist styles. They're also practical as they sit flush against walls when benches are stored. Turned legs add traditional charm and decorative detail, creating more visual interest and suiting period properties or classic dining rooms. Both styles offer exactly the same structural strength using solid 33mm timber. Many customers choose turned legs for a formal dining room and square legs for a kitchen breakfast bar, though the choice is entirely based on your aesthetic preference.
Our standard farmhouse benches are backless, allowing them to slide completely under tables and be pushed against walls for space-saving storage. Backless benches also provide versatile seating accessible from both sides, useful in open-plan spaces. However, if you'd like a bench with a back, please mention this when requesting a quote, and we'll discuss options for creating a backed bench to your specifications. Bear in mind that backed benches won't store under tables as neatly.
Our benches are built with solid construction using chunky timber throughout. The frame uses 33mm thick timber with 3-inch x 3-inch legs, creating exceptional strength and rigidity. Whilst we don't provide a specific weight limit, our benches regularly seat 3-4 adults comfortably and are used daily in schools, restaurants and busy family kitchens. The solid construction means the bench cannot be pulled or twisted out of shape even with heavy use. You can rest assured these benches are built to last decades of regular family dining and entertaining.
