Yes, all our potting benches are made using pressure-treated (tanalised) timber, which means they're designed to withstand all weather conditions year-round. The treatment process protects the wood from rot, decay and insect damage. You'll never need to apply any paint, varnish or preservative, although some customers choose to paint their benches for aesthetic reasons. You may notice small cracks appearing as the timber dries in the sun and wind, which is completely normal and won't affect durability.
The timber top provides a traditional, all-wood potting bench that's stable and rigid. The half steel top features galvanised steel on one half of the worktop, giving you an easy-to-clean surface for messy tasks whilst retaining timber on the other half for a warmer working area. The full steel top offers maximum easy-clean properties, perfect if you want to simply wipe down after potting.
Your shelf choice depends on how you'll use the bench. If you plan to sit at your potting bench, the half-depth shelf provides plenty of legroom. The three-quarter depth shelf suits occasional sitting or perching on a stool. If you'll mainly stand whilst working, the full-depth shelf maximises storage space. We also offer two-shelf configurations for extra storage, enclosed shelves for storing logs or keeping items dry, and fully enclosed cupboards with doors for secure storage.
Yes, we offer several wheel options. Swivelling castor wheels make the bench mobile, though there may be slight rocking during heavy work. Retractable castor wheels allow the bench to sit firmly on the ground until you push a lever to lift it onto wheels. We also offer barrow-style wheels with handles or hand rails that are ideal for moving the bench across lawns or gravel, though these add approximately 30cm to the overall length.
Our potting benches come in pressure-treated natural wood as standard, which requires no painting. However, we offer an extensive colour range across three pricing tiers. Tier 1 colours (requiring fewer coats) include popular shades like Sage, Somerset Green, Forget Me Not and Seasoned Oak. Tier 2 and 3 colours include options like Coastal Mist, Fresh Rosemary and White. You can also choose from ranges such as Little Greene or Farrow and Ball. Prices vary by bench size and tier.
