42mm Thick Worktop
Made from 2 sheets of factory-made boards glued together – one board is 24mm thick and the other is 18mm thick. Both boards are made from 30mm wide strips of laminated redwood glued together to make a sheet. This is a good option for high precision work as the worktop will be 100% flat and very stable. Note that the price of the 42mm thick worktop may be the same or even more expensive than the 70mm thick worktop as they are made in different ways.
70mm Thick Worktop
MOST POPULAR
We make this worktop ourselves using 75mm x 150mm (3” x 6”) boards glued together. This makes for a very heavy workbench which is usually an advantage when carving, woodturning and other carpentry jobs. The weight stops the bench and the workpiece from bouncing (especially when using chisels or hammers). As this has been joined and sanded in our workshop, please allow for a tolerance of a couple of millimeters over the full length of the bench – for most users this will be completely unnoticeable. This worktop is a similar price to the 42mm thick worktop (for some sizes it works out cheaper) due to the difference in construction and is often the best value as well as being our best-selling worktop.
70mm Thick Worktop with Tool Well
We make this worktop ourselves using 75mm x 150mm (3” x 6”) boards glued together but we swap 1 of the 3” thick boards for a thinner board to form a ‘recess’ or ‘well’ which is 36mm deep by 145mm wide and the full length of your bench. Placing tools in this well will prevent them from rolling onto the floor and damaging the sharp edges as well as allowing you to lay your workpiece flat on the worktop without your tools getting in the way. 42mm Thick Oak Worktop
This premium worktop is made from 2 sheets of factory-made boards glued together – the top board is 18mm thick oak and the inner board is 24mm thick pine. Each board is made from strips of laminated timber glued together. This is a good option for high precision work as the worktop will be 100% flat and very stable. The Oak provides a fantastic looking and very hardwearing surface to work on as well as adding extra weight to keep the bench in position.
Galvanised Steel Sheet Worktop
This is fixed over the top of a 25mm timber top and is perfect for mechanics, engineers or anyone else that needs a worktop that can be wiped down easily.
